Youtube Thumbnails

I originally thought about using the thumbnails as a way to create worlds with drawing in almost taking a children’s book approach using it to create the sort of imagination, curiousity, and creativity I always aim to create in my artwork.

On second thought I feel I need to photos for my thumnails for the most part. Creative photos that have mystery and intrigue and magic and emotion. But photos not just drawings.

I was looking at children’s book covers for inspiration and I realized that when I see a beautiful children’s book cover, I expect the inside to be filled with those beautiful illustrations.

I want the cover to be a photo to something related to what is in the video so that there people get the world that they are looking for inside the “pages” of my video. The thumbnail is like a cover for a book.

Here are some inspiration:

Workpost 85: Health Challenge

I’ve decided to start on my health challenge today. What does that mean?

  1. An emphasis on taking care of my mental and physical health above all
  2. Creating boundaries and emotionally processing any pushback around not making my health a priority
  3. Certain goals:
    • Jiujitsu for 2+ hours every day
    • Boxing on the days I can go
    • Cooking all of my meals
    • Bedtime at midnight
    • Reduced or elimination of all processed sugars
  4. Work comes after health, and is designed to be rejuvenating instead of draining

This health challenge will run from today until the 15th – the day when I travel home. Then I will work on adjusting and finding a new routine.

Today, I want to ponder two things:

  1. What do I want to post as a video explaining what I’m doing with my youtube challenge?
  2. How will I support myself healthwise while working to make it rejuvenating?

Youtube Video

  1. “It’s over. I failed”
  2. “Welcome back to the 21 day youtuber challenge, my name is Jack you are watching episode 17.”
  3. “In this challenge, I was supposed to post a video every day for 21 days, and it’s safe to say I failed.”
  4. “I haven’t posted for multiple days in a row, the last episode actually shot multiple days before I released it because it took so long to edit”
  5. “The reason is simple, it took 6 to 8 hours to create every video from the ideation, to the shooting, to the editing and that just isn’t sustainable”
  6. “If I think of the ideal pyramid of life, it looks something like this” (Health, work, youtube)
  7. “But recently it’s felt upside down”
  8. “So what’s next? I still want to do the challenge – posting the rest of the 21 videos exploring what I like to make videos about. After all, I have so many more ideas to try out”
  9. “But I’m not going to release them every day anymore”
  10. “Here are 10 things I can focus on now that I’m not releasing videos at such a frantic pace”
  11. “But in those little moments when I have time, I will keep making videos for this series, and hopefully it’ll be magical”

Working Plan

  1. Focus on only one thing at a time
  2. Process emotions around rushing or being in a hurry
  3. Create an appropriately prioritized to do list
  4. Take a lot of notes when taking a break so I can pick off where I left off
  5. Timed meditation and off screen time for stronger focus

Workpost 84: Focus

I’ve been feeling really out of sorts recently. Not going to bed at a reasonable time. Not brushing my teeth. Not eating well. And it all comes down to pressure. Pressure to post youtube videos. Pressure to perform at work. Pressure to rest my eyes. Pressure to do jiujitsu.

I feel beyond overwhelmed and turn to the only outlet I saw…gaming.

It’s almost as if my unconscious mind felt I really needed to meet my need to succeed and the fastest and easiest way with the lowest chance of failure is to win a game. Makes sense I guess.

In any case, I would like to return to a couple of core tenants.

  1. Extreme focus to deal with the overwhelm. I only need to focus on one thing at a time.
  2. Being there for myself. Asking myself every step of the day, what can I do to be there for myself.

In keeping with the tenant of focus, here are the priorities in order:

  1. Health – let myself take care of myself
  2. Getting work done for my job (to the degree where I feel comfortable)
  3. Youtube

Workpost 83: Making a Gaming Video

Need to shoot a gaming video today

  1. “I got a bit of a dilemma”
  2. “This is my Valorant jacket. I got it when I watched the world championship in LA a year ago. I love playing Valorant.”
  3. “But this is the 21 day youtuber challenge”
  4. “I’ve yet to figure out how to connect those two passions together. But that changes today”
  5. “Hi everyone, my name is Jack, and this in the Youtuber challenge, the challenge where I post a video everyday, working not for views, but for the love of making videos”
  6. “There are a bunch of things I’m super passionate about, but haven’t figured out how to connect to a Youtube video yet. And one of those things is gaming.”
  7. “But here’s my problem with gaming. I like playing alone, I don’t like talking while I’m gaming, but I do feel like there are certain things I like to share after the game is done.”
  8. “Here is the plan. I have fun gaming. In between, I’ll do a little bit of journaling, and afterwards, I’ll just edit a video that is fun for me”

Workpost 82: Returning to fundamentals

It’s been a while since I journaled on here.

I feel very tired at the moment, but I’m glad that I’m taking a step back and returning to my fundamentals.

What was the purpose of “Workposts” to begin with? It was a chance to practice being in the higher energies that I tap into with my coaching and plan out my days with it:

  1. You’re in my house
  2. Have patience
  3. Be ok with silence
  4. Take big risks

Today I am feeling into going fast and slow with two main projects.

First project, I want to move fast, with some long stretches of work, which is my YouTube video that I intend on shooting today. Here is the general structure of the video I’m pondering over:

  1. “Shorts shorts short shorts shorts” while holding up different shorts and smiling at the last one with a YT shorts logo
  2. “Ok so today, I’m taking these three viral Youtube Shorts and creating my take on them. My name is Jack and you’re watching episode 12 of the Youtube Challenge.”
  3. “Welcome back to the Youtube Challenge, the challenge where I work through my emotional blocks to find out how to make the Content Creation process fun for myself by posting a new video every single day.”
  4. “A quick update from yesterday, I was feeling very sad and depressed about my progress thus far on YouTube, and today I’m doing a little better. I noticed that in the process of shooting a video every single day, I’ve neglected the rest of my health and my day job and today I returned to the routines and systems that work for me. Like journaling in the morning and planning out my day.”
  5. “One big epiphany I has was that every time I reach for my phone for distraction, I am feeling some intense physical discomfort and that I could feel much better by not picking up the phone but instead physically self soothing myself with stuff like rocking.”
  6. “Well anyway, this video is about the shorts, so lets get into the shorts”
  7. Viral short 1
  8. React to short
  9. Broll of editing my take
  10. Viral short 2
  11. React to short
  12. Broll of editing my take
  13. Viral short 3
  14. React to short
  15. Broll of editing my take
  16. “That’s it for today, make sure you like comment and subscribe, peace”

The second project is going to be a slow thing that I chip away at throughout the entire day. Slow and steady wins the race right? This project has to do with a client I have, and I want to get them to an overall perfect state with at least no complaints for a while.

Let’s create a DOD:

Project: Undisclosed Client

Facts:

This project should improve product accuracy and usefulness
The deliverables I expect to see are new feature successfully deployed with a 60%+ first try success rate
This must be completed by today

Feelings:

When this is done, I will feel in control and confident about the product and customer relationship

Future:

When this is done, I will be able to focus fully on marketing efforts

Workpost 81: Making Money

I’ve finally gotten my business cards done! I’m pretty happy about that.

The main thing to do next is to make some money today.

I was to focus primarily on making fast money, at least 300 today.

Other than that, I want to think about my next step in my plan – which is making videos.

Finally, I think my final potential goal for today is to call some active retired individual retreats and see if I can teach a class there.

Financial Software

I want to do some planning to work on a software that will help me keep track of my financial situation while also taking far less of my time.

What I want the financial software to help with:

  1. Verify credit card transactions
  2. Make me aware of money in vs money out
  3. Make me aware of potential savings strategies
  4. Ideally teach me some javascript

Workpost 80: Recovery and creativity

Today I feel like pretty weak and tired from doing a 5k in the morning. But I want to go to jiujitsu later today as well.

So today is going to be a time of hyperrecovery. I need to keep breathing and cough up some of the congestion that built up in my nose and lungs.

Today my main focus is building a landing page that will help increase sales, as well as finishing my business cards.

My strategy for recovery is going to be water and sleep. Lots of naps and water.
